The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

A friend of mine bought me a daily calendar for Christmas. It’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People calendar. I felt what they were saying on January 16th and 19th, so I decided to share.

    16th

The “inside-out” approach to personal and interpersonal effectiveness means to start first with self; even more fundamentally, to start with the most inside part of self – with your paradigms, your character, and your motives. The inside-out approach says that private victories precede public victories, that making and keeping promises to ourselves precedes making and keeping promises to others.  It says it is futile to put personality ahead of character, to try to improve relationships with others before improving ourselves.

Inside-out is a process – a continuing process of renewal based on the natural laws that govern human growth and progress. It’s an upward spiral of growth that leads to progressively higher forms of responsible independence and effective interdependence.

    19th

Dependence is the paradigm of you – you take care of me, you come through for me; you didn’t come through; I blame you for the results.

Independence is the paradigm of I – I can do it; I am responsible; I am self-reliant; I can choose.

Interdependence is the paradigm of we – we can do it; we can cooperate; we can combine our talents and abilities and create something greater together.

Dependent people need others to get what they want. Independent people can get what they want through their own effort. Interdependent people combine their own efforts with the efforts of others to achieve their greatest success.

I am working to become more interdependent…especially in my relationship with my fiancé. I know that it takes the two of us working together to make this work. Anything worth having is worth working for. If it’s not worth working for, then let it go!

    Very busy day...

It is 10:30 and my babe and I have just crawled into bed with our laptops. I am blogging, and she is checking email. Last night we went to “game night” at her friend B.M.’s house. We had a very good time.

didn't get to pay this one
    the hit of the evening

We took Rummikub, Po-Ke-No and You’ve Been Sentenced with us. Rummikub and You’ve Been Sentenced were the hit of the evening.  We started out with Rummikub, and most of the people had never heard of it. As we played people kind of stood around trying to get the gnact of how to play. They loved the game.
After playing Rummikub, they started playing Taboo, and that’s where it went downhill. People were saying that others were cheating. One friend said that she wanted the 800 number so that she could call to clarify the rules of the game. <IMG height=15 src=" class="wp-smiley"> A few drinks were had by many, so it was very lively, and some folks got a little testy. After Taboo, they started playing You’ve Been Sentenced, and they really loved that game. Folks were making all kinds of crazy sentences. A good time was had by all. We didn’t leave there until almost 3.
We got out of bed a little before noon. I have NEVER slept in for that amount of time. LOL We had to meet with the lady at the place that we are having our reception. So, we met with her at 2, then we decided to get the Christmas shopping out of the way. Old Navy had a good sale on pajamas. I really love pajamas. I think I have a pajama fetish.  Anyway, they had pajama bottoms for $6 and tops for $5. I bought 2 pajama bottoms, a pajama top, and a fleece top.

    they are so soft

    to go with my bottoms

We were out until about 7:30. We stopped by R.S.’s house to pick up babe’s stuff from and then we headed home to eat dinner, and wrap the presents.

Sister Souljah has a new book out. It’s called Midnight. It is a follow-up to her best selling book The Coldest Winter Ever, which I absolutely loved. Can’t wait to read this one.

    Can't wait to read it

I found a couple images online that I wanted to share. We love to have both of these on a tee-shirt.

    oh, how true...

    could be doing something else...

I tried to post this blog this morning at work, only to find out that Xanga is blocked there. So, I saved it to post when I got home.  Just a little memo on the ham...it was warm this time. You'll figure it out as you read, so here goes...

Sitting at work waiting for the office Christmas party to start. They had us come in at 8 only to sit around waiting until the board meeting is over. I could be home in the bed with my baby. <IMG height=15 src=" class="wp-smiley"> The party won’t start until 12 noon, so until then, I am left to my own devices.

The company catered the Christmas party. I work for the Board of Elections and we FINALLY put the November 4th election to bed after handling over 270,000 paper ballots. We had 2 recounts and 2 audits. It has been a long, hard road. Working 7 days a week, 18 and 19 hours a day since August. We are all so glad it’s finally over. I am taking Thursday and Friday off so that I can finish packing up my apartment. I start my real vacation next Tuesday and won’t return until after the New Year starts. I need a break. <IMG height=15 src=" class="wp-smiley">

As I said, they catered the Christmas party. They ordered a ham from Honeybaked Ham. They did the same last year, and the ham was cold. I mean, straight out of the refrigerator cold. I am sorry, but I do not roll with cold ham. I took a bite and my first thought was, “What the hell?” LOL So, this year I will pop mine in the toaster oven that we have in the break room.

It’s almost time for me to get a new phone. I am torn between two phones.

    This phone is so sweet

    This phone is so sweet...

the clicking noise has me sold
the clicking sound on this phone is nice...

I think I am leaning toward the iphone because the service plan is better. I love the sleek looking of the iphone as well, but the clicking noise of the Storm is somehow throwing a monkey wrench into my plans. If any of you have either of these phones, please contact me with your pros and cons.

Well, I am going to go to my desk and read my book. It’s starting to get really good. I am reading Someone to Catch My Drift by Jacqueline Powell.

About Me

  • I am a 35-year-old African American lesbian. I am in a long term relationship, and very much in love. I work for the government, while attending college part time. My major is Social Work with a minor emphasis in African American Studies. I am very laid back, and very sociable. I am involved in volunteering. My biggest joy as far as volunteering is concerned is working with Big Brother/Big Sister. I am here to find friends. If you are about a lot of drama, or about playing games, please keep moving.
